Short Film Drama I Wrote, Directed, Camera Operated and Edited.
Synopsis:
Anna grew up hearing Midlands folktales and superstitions from her grandmother. As a child she was scared of witches that she believed were buried under Wych Elm trees. She thought her fears were put behind her until a new monster presents itself, but this monster is not supernatural and is one we can all recognise today.
Inspired by folktales and mysteries from the Midlands, and by real life horrors.
Starring Jessica Gittins who recently starred in BBC iPlayer's "Unveiled".
Director Statement:
I wanted to make a film about real life horrors we see in the news everyday and connect this with horrific stories and figures long forgotten. Whilst I was living in the Midlands, UK I was inspired by local folklore such as "Who put Bella in the Wych Elm" and the 18th century bogeyman "Black Annis".
Coming from documentary, I am used to small crews and being multi skilled. With this film I wanted these documentary sensibilities but in a drama environment.
